  40. WHAT IS SNAPSHOT?
  41.

  43.                    SnapShot  is  a 'startup-utility'  aimed  at harddisk
  44.                    users,  and  is a SUPPLEMENT (NOT a replacement) to a
  45.                    good  virus  checker/killer.   It can also be used by
  46.                    floppy  users,  but  is  intended  to  be  used  on a
  47.                    harddisk  system.   SnapShot  is  not only automatic,
  48.                    it's also much, much faster than a conventional virus
  49.                    checker.

  51.  
  52.                    Snapshot  will  automatically check your harddisk for
  53.                    viruses  every day, week, month or whatever intervals
  54.                    you  decide.   If  the  disk  structure  is  not 100%
  55.                    identical  to  what SnapShot expects to find you will
  56.                    get  a  message  telling you that something is wrong,
  57.                    and  you  can  do a more extensive check of the disk.
  58.                    The  advantage  over  other virus checker programs is
  59.                    that  SnapShot  will do this automatically, say every
  60.                    week.  So if you forget(?) to check your harddisk for
  61.                    viruses, SnapShot will do it for you!!

  64.     REMARK:        SnapShot will find "ALL"...new unknown viruses too!!!

  67.     ATTENTION:     SnapShot  is  special  very excellent for BBS purpose
  68.                    to  avoid hacking  by  the  new very used infiltrator

  70.                    bulletin board.

  188. HOW TO USE SNAPSHOT.
  189.

  191.                    Before  you  can  use  SnapShot you must be sure that
  192.                    your system is 100% virusfree. I personally prefer to
  193.                    use  'Virus_Checker'  by  John Veldthuis to make sure
  194.                    that my system is virusfree.  SnapShot is used in two
  195.                    ways. First you have to use the 'update' parameter to
  196.                    take  a  snapshot of your system.  After the snapshot
  197.                    is  taken  you can put SnapShot in your 'startup-seq-
  198.                    uence'.  See below.

  202.                    THE SYNTAX OF SNAPSHOT IS AS FOLLOWS:
  203.  
  204.                    SnapShot <partition> <[update]|[0 1 . 31]> <switches>
  205.                    where  the parameters  has  the  following  meanings:
  206.  
  207.   <partition>   =  The harddisk partition (or floppy drive) to use. (The
  208.                    one you start up from.)
  209.  
  210.   <[update]>    =  This  is  the parameter you use to take a snapshot of
  211.                    the  disk.  This  is used only the first time you use
  212.                    SnapShot,  or  when  you have done any changes on the
  213.                    disk. More about this later.
  214.  
  215.   <[0 1 .. 31]> =  This  is  the  parameter(s)  you use in the 'startup-
  216.                    sequence'. The 1 .. 31 is the dates that you want the
  217.                    system checked for viruses. If you use 0 here it will
  218.                    check always.
  219.  
  220.   <switches>    =  The  switches  tells SnapShot what/where to check for
  221.                    viruses. They are as follows:
  222.

  225.   -r               This  switch  is if you want to include the 'root' of
  226.                    the disk. (dh0: dh1: Workbench: etc.)
  227.  
  228.   -c               This  switch  is  if  you  want  to  include  the 'c'
  229.                    directory of the disk. (dh0:c dh1:c Workbench:c etc.)
  230.  
  231.   -s               This  switch  is if you want to include the 'startup-
  232.                    sequence' in the 's' directory of the disk.
  233.  
  234.   -d               This  switch  is  if  you  want to include the 'Disk-
  235.                    Validator' in the 'l' directory of the disk.
  236.  
  237.   -a               This  switch  is  if  you  want to include all of the
  238.                    above switches.

  241.                    I  will give you some examples of how to use SnapShot
  242.                    for  the  first time.  If your harddisk is 'DH0:' and
  243.                    you  want  to take a snapshot of the entire disk, you
  244.                    will type the following line in the CLI:

  345.                    SnapShot is NOT  a viruskiller (yet?), it's a supple-
  346.                    ment to the many available viruskillers in the public
  347.                    domain.

  349.                    It  will only tell you if there is any changes in the
  350.                    diskstructure  (a virus has infected a file or files,
  351.                    or  you  have  forgotten to update the snapshot), NOT
  352.                    remove any viruses.
